Podiatry

* Podiatrists (also known as Chiropodists) diagnose and treat abnormalities of the lower limb.

*If you suffer from diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis you are at a higher risk of developing foot problems.

About the service

The North Tyneside Primary Care Trust (PCT) podiatry service provides approximately 16,000 treatments per year to a population of approximately 200,000 people.

Treatment is provided in 11 different clinical sites (listed below), as well as some GP surgeries, hospital wards, day centres, hospital outpatients department and patients homes. Our team consists of one head of department, 11 podiatrists, two podiatry assistants and three clerical staff.

North Tyneside PCT's podiatry department aims to provide a comprehensive, high quality, needs led foot health service to the population of North Tyneside. Our services range from support in self care, through to specialist work in areas such as nail surgery, specialist footwear clinics, specialist rheumatology clinics, biomechanics clinics and pododpaediatrics (childrens’ biomechanics).

  • Wallsend Clinic,The Green, Wallsend
  • Whitley Bay Health Centre, Whitley Road, Whitley Bay.
  • Monkseaton Clinic, Chapel Lane, Whitley Bay.
  • Shiremoor Resource Centre, Earsdon Road, Shiremoor.
  • Forest Hall Health Centre, Station Road, Forest Hall.
  • Killingworth Clinic, Wellspring Medical Practice, Killingworth.
  • The Oxford Centre, Longbenton
  • Fordley Clinic, Dudley.
  • Woodlands Park Health Centre, Wideopen.

Please note: The podiatry department does not provide a simple nail cutting service

How can I access the service?

Referrals are accepted from:

  • All health care professionals
  • Social workers
  • Carers
  • Self referral

If you wish to refer yourself you must complete an application form. The application form is used to prioritise requests. Please use the guidance notes to help you complete your application.

We would like to point out that it is not possible to provide a paid transport service at this time.
