District nursing

North Tyneside Primary Care Trust's (PCT) district nursing service provides a twenty four hour service to patients in a variety of locations across North Tyneside. District nurses in North Tyneside provide a range of services including:

  • Teaching self care procedures to enable patient’s to manage their own health needs
  • Educating patients and carers to adapt to limitations imposed by related health problems
  • Preventing health complications associated with immobility and disability in existing illness
  • Wound management
  • Participation in the rehabilitation of patients following surgery, disability, accident or illness
  • Long-term management and support of patients with chronic degenerative conditions using a proactive case management approach
  • Terminal and palliative care (end of life care)
  • Treatment and monitoring of health problems within the local community
  • Participation in the public health agenda in the local community

How can I access the service?

Access to the district nursing service Monday - Friday 8.30am - 5pm is via your GP surgery or local health centre.

At all other times, including bank holidays you can contact us via northern doctors urgent care on: 0845 60 80 320. Calls may be taken by non clinical staff; if you wish to speak to a district nurse please leave your contact details and they will call you back.
