Delivering single sex accomodation
In January 2009, the Department of Health unveiled a package of measures to eliminate mixed sex accommodation. NHS Newcastle and North Tyneside Community Health - the organisation that provides community health services on behalf of Newcastle PCT and North Tyneside PCT- successfully bid for funding to implement improvements to current standards by reducing the need for mixed sex accommodation to the lowest possible level. Only in exceptional circumstances, where this is a justifiable clinical need, will mixed sex accommodation be used.
